"Everyday People" - Artist Catalogue
In-depth catalogue depicting the works of Amy Sherald
Amy Sherald is a contemporary African-American painter known for her portraits which address issues of injustice in black culture. This artist catalog is designed to emphasize the quiet power of Sherald's work, by giving the "everyday people" in her works room to speak volumes.
Simple typography creates space for the bold colors sampled from each featured artwork.
By painting skin tones in gray scale, Sherald breaks against identifying individuals based on their skin tone.
As a nod to this effort, the book and its contents have a complete absence of the color "black," instead using a range of brown skin tones sampled directly from her paintings.
Each work spread features a single painting, accompanied by three grayscale sections, emphasizing the figure's face and two other detail shots, free from the powerful influence of color.
